REFLECTOR: A CURRENT PIC OF MY PLANE

Larry and Jeff,I scratched some of the paint off of one of my winglets to verify and saw the carbon underneath. I can receive COM frequencies pretty well out to 60 miles or so. But, transmitting gives me less than 5 miles range.

I'm trying to get feedback from others on how they overcame the carbon fiber issue. Eventually, I'll probably cut some "windows" in the carbon and then put glass in. But, I would prefer an easier solution over the harder one. :-)

Cheers

Kirk

As I recall, Alan used carbon for the area over the control surfaces and possibly part of the winglet. This may have varied with different “generations”.

I have Alan Shaw wings and I have had no problem with the radios—I can normally pick up/communicate with airports over 100 miles away at altitude. I did make sure that Shaw installed commercial antennas (I don’t remember the brand) and not the usual copper strips (which he did at no cost).

Jeff, Are those Alan Shaw wings? If so, are they made of carbon fiber? If they are carbon fiber, where did you place your COM antennas? I have continuing issues when transmitting. Kirk N360TV1996 SE RG TO-360-E1A6D
