REFLECTOR: EGT extensions

I know this has been gone over at least twice before- but what is the
preferred was to extend my k-type EGT thermocouples? I know I need the
K-type extension wire, but what is the correct way to splice the wires
together? Just twist and heat shrink, twist, solder and heat shrink, or are
there specific crimp sleeves that are made out of the proper alloys to make
these connections?
