Mike,
If you do box and ship it, describe it as a metal and composite equipment piece and it should go as Class 70 or 80. If you describe it as 3-bladed propeller, assembled, it will be Class 230. Since freight costs is calculated on mileage x freight class, it will cost you 3 times as much to go the propeller descriptions. The NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) catalog is about 4" thick and has every imaginable description in it. You should pick an accurate description, even if a more precise description may be available.
Absent a description and Classification number on your bill of lading (BOL), the freight company will fill it in for you.....yes, as luck would have it, they usually don't happen to pick the lowest Classification out of the hat.

Subject: REFLECTOR: Help with MT Propeller Shipping
Thanks to all who responded to my post, "To MT or not to MT". Obviously many Aerocomposite aficionados in reflector land, but no one who spoke up for the alternative.
Before I go any further, let me speak out to this current situation of customer service.
On Monday morning I phoned the factory concerning my damaged prop and what to expect in the way of service options from MT in Deland. Scott Baker received my call with much enthusiasm and thoroughly explained my options. He asked for propeller photos with the damaged area and before was lunch was calling me to inquire as to the delay in submitting them. By three o'clock I had spoken with Scott, Baker, Scott Swing, Ken Baker and Ken Mischler all who made various attempts at helping me iron out the situation. Flat economy or robust, that is what I deem as great customer service. Thanks Gentlemen!
Based on this service it appears I need to return my prop to Florida for repair and possibly for overhaul work. Here's what I don't know. How is this propeller crated when shipped out from or returned the factory? Anyone happen to have an MT box laying around that they could provide the physical dimensions? Finally anyone out there have a MT constant speed they might be willing to rent while I await my repair?
Kind Regards
Mike Wilson

PS - I have decided to repair this MT as well as order a new Aerocomposite model. So anyone looking to buy a next to new MT in the very near future stay tuned.
